The Winnipeg Jets played a brilliant hockey game last night, whipping the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2. The Charleswood Hawks and the Raiders Hockey Club swept their Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League quarterfinal series; the Waywayseecappo Wolverines took a 2-1 lead over the powerhouse Dauphin Kings in the MJHL and the Keystone Cup is coming to St. Malo.
Let’s start with the Jets outstanding victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League last night…
Blake Wheeler scored twice, Nik Antropov had a goal and two assists, Dustin Byfuglien had three assists and Kyle Wellwood and Evander Kane added single goals as the Winnipeg Jets ripped the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 at MTS Centre last night. With the win – and the New York Rangers 3-1 loss to Buffalo last night – the Jets are now tied for eighth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 13-11-2. The Jets also play 13 of their final 22 games at home this season.
The Jets have tonight off. Tomorrow they’ll face the New York Rangers – a huge four-point game — at MTS Centre, 7 p.m. on TSN Jets TV.

Justin Peters made 26 saves to get his second career shutout and Riley Nash scored twice as Carolina stayed three points ahead of Winnipeg in the Southeast Division.
Vancouver 2 Columbus 1 (SO)
The Jackets got a point but Vancouver pit a halt to their five-game winning streak. Former Manitoba Moose Mason Raymond scored the shootout winner.
Pittsburgh 3 Boston 2
The Bruins had a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes and gave up three unanswered in the third. Brandon Sutter scored the tying goal at 14:33 of the third and then the winner at 17:57.
Edmonton 4 Colorado 0
Devan Dubnyk made 36 saves to get the shutout.
Buffalo 3 NY Rangers 1
Marcus Foligno led the Sabres with a pair of goals as the Rangers fell into an eighth-place tie with the Jets.
Anaheim 2 Minnesota 1
Luca Sbisa scored the winner on an assist from Teemu Selanne as Anaheim scored two unanswered in the third to come back and win.
Phoenix 5 Los Angeles 2
Michael Boedker scored twice as Phoenix jumped from ninth to sixth in the West.
Tampa 3 Florida 2
Steven Stamkos’ 20th goal of the year was the winner in the third period. Vincent Lecavalier and Marty St. Louis each had a goal and an assist.
St. Louis 4 San Jose 2
Chris Stewart scored twice to lead the Blues while goalie Jake Allen improved 6-1-0 with a 39-save performance.
Nashville 4 Dallas 0
Pekka Rinne made 32 saves to get the shutout.
There was one game in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven quarterfinal series last night and could it be happening to the Dauphin Kings again. The best team in the MJHL this season now trails the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 2-1 in the opening round of the playoffs after Wayway got a pair of goals from Russell Turner at 16 minutes and 18:46 of the third period to go into Dauphin and come back and beat the Kings 4-3. There are four games tonight: Swan Valley, trailing 2-0 is at OCN; Portage, trailing 2-0 is at Steinbach; Winkler, trailing 2-0 is in Winnipeg to face the Blues; and Dauphin, now trailing 2-1 is in Waywayseecappo.

The 22-39-4-4 last-place Brandon Wheat Kings, return to action tonight against the Prince Albert Raiders, 7 p.m. at Westman Place.
MANITOBA TRIPLE A MIDGET LEAGUE
There were no games in the Manitoba Triple A Midget Hockey League playoffs last night, but there is one game tonight: the Winnipeg Thrashers are at Brandon.
MANITOBA MAJOR JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE
There were four games in the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League playoffs last night: Charleswood beat St. Vital 3-2 to win that best-of-seven series in four straight games; the Raiders beat St. Boniface 4-1 to sweep that quarterfinal series as well; River East beat the Twins 4-2 in overtime to take a 3-1 lead in that series; and Pembina Valley drilled St. James 9-2 to take a 3-1 lead in that series. On Friday, River East is at the Twins while St. James plays at Pembina Valley.
KEYSTONE JUNIOR B HOCKEY
And there was one game in the Keystone Jr. B Hockey League semifinals last night: Selkirk whipped Arborg 5-1 to even up that semifinal at 2-2.. No games tonight or tomorrow, but one on Friday: St. Malo, trailing 2-0, plays at Peguis.
The 30th annual Keystone Cup Western Junior B Hockey Championships is brought to by the 2013 Keystone Cup Host Committee and the St. Malo Junior B Warriors, April 17th to 21st at the Saint Malo Arena. The tournament will feature teams from BC , Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Day and weekend passes are available and the kickoff fundraiser goes April 6 at the Community Hall in St.Malo.
