Garrett Desmond had three goals and an assist and Peter Logan had a goal and five assists as the Twins blasted last-place Transcona 11-0 in MMJHL action on Thursday night. Meanwhile, Zach Bogosian is ready to return for the the Winnipeg Jets tonight and Winkler’s Eric Fehr scored a pair of goals to lead Washington past Tampa. It was an interesting day.
Let’s start with the National Hockey League…
It’s Hockey Night in Winnipeg: The 5-6-1 Winnipeg Jets, the 11th place team in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, play again tonight when the Pittsburgh Penguins invade MTS Centre at 6 p.m. The game is a rare Friday night game on CBC. Back on Jan. 25, the Jets beat Pittsburgh 4-2. Defenseman Zach Bogosian is fully healed from wrist surgery and he’ll be ready to play tonight and that’s great news for the Jets.
Meanwhile, yesterday, Jets forward Evander Kane said comments he made about racism being a basis for criticism leveled toward him, were directed at those on social media, not members of the mainstream or alternative media.

Jussi Jokinen scored the winning goal. Joe Corvo had a goal and an assist while Jeff Skinner had two assists.
Montreal 1 Florida 0 (OT)
One of the great Metis players in the NHL, Rene Bourque scored the overtime winner.
NY Islanders 4 NY Rangers 3 (SO)
John Tavares scored his eighth goal of the season and then scored shootout winner.
Washington 4 Tampa 3
Winkler’s Eric Fehr, a former Winnipeg Jet, scored twice for the Capitals. Marty St. Louis had a goal and an assist for Tampa.
Nashville 3 Phoenix 0
Pekka Rinne made 19 saves to get the shutout. Winnipeg’s Colin Wilson had another assist.
Colorado 4 Minnesota 3 (SO)
Matt Duchene scored the tying goal in regulation than scored the shootout winner.
There were no games in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League last night but five tonight: Dauphin is at OCN, Winkler is at Steinbach, Waywayseecappo is at Swan Valley, Portage is at Neepawa, and Selkirk plays the Blues at MTS Iceplex.

MANITOBA TRIPLE A MIDGET LEAGUE
There were no games in the Manitoba Triple A Midget Hockey League playoffs last night but there are four tonight: Eastman is at Kenora; Pembina valley plays Parkland in Dauphin; Interlake faces Norman in Thompson; and Southwest plays Central Plains in Portage.
MANITOBA MAJOR JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE

The playoffs in the Keystone Jr. B Hockey League begin tonight with Norway House at Arborg both tonight and tomorrow night; Lundar plays at St. Malo tomorrow then St. Malo returns to Lundar on Sunday. North Winnipeg opens against Selkirk on Sunday and Peguis opens up against Ste. Rose on Monday night.
