The playoff hero in Game 5 of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s semifinal series, Braden Purtill of the Steinbach Pistons, has been named this week’s MJHL Player of the Week.
On Sunday night, Purtill, 19, scored the game-winning goal in the Pistons’ 3-2 win over the Portage Terriers in Game 5 of their best-of-seven series. Terriers are up 3-2 and play host to Game 6 in Portage on Tuesday night.
Purtill, who hails from Winnipeg, was selected the first star in Sunday’s win. Last week the forward had two goals and three points in three games.
The runners up were 18-year-old forward Ty Enns of the Portage Terriers and 19-year-old goaltender Brett Epp of the OCN Blizzard.
The winner of the Terriers-Pistons series will meet the OCN Blizzard in the MJHL Final.
