Russell Turner had a hat-trick as the Waywayseecappo Wolverines outscored the Neepawa Natives 7-4 in the only Manitoba Junior Hockey League game last night. Turner was our player of the night on a rather slow evening in Manitoba hockey.
Let’s start with the National Hockey League…
The Winnipeg Jets get back into action tonight at the MTS Centre, 7 p.m. on TSN Jets TV, as the Philadelphia Flyers come to town. It will be the second game of a back-to-back series for Philly, they lost 5-2 in Toronto last night. Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien will return to action after missing five games with a lower body injury. The Jets goaltender, whether Al Montoya or Ondrej Pavelec, will be a game time decision, but Montoya certainly earned a second start after that terrific shutout in Ottawa on Saturday.

Matt Frattin had a goal and an assist while Winnipeg’s Colton Orr scored his first goal of the year on the assist from Winnipeg’s Frazer McLaren. Morweena, Manitoba’s James Reimer, the Leafs goalie, suffered a leg injury and left the game, but Ben Scrivens shut down the Flyers and got the win. The 8-5-0 Leafs have won four straight.
Minnesota 2 Calgary 1 (SO)
Mikko Koivu scored the shootout winner.
Los Angeles 4 St. Louis 1
Jeff Carter scored twice for L.A. and Winnipeg’s Alexander Steen had the Blues only goal.
Columbus 6 San Jose 2
Brandon Dubinsky led the Blue Jackets with a goal and an assist.
Carolina 6 NY Islanders 4
Jiri Tlusty had two goals and two assists in the third period to lead the Hurricanes. Alexander Semin had a goal and an assist.
Phoenix 3 Colorado 2 (OT)
Former Jet 1.0 Shane Doan scored two goals including the overtime winner and dished out an assist.

Yesterday, Justin Augert of the Steinbach Pistons was named the Recycle Everywhere-MJHL Player of the Week, The Pistons forward led all MJHL scorers last week with four goals and 11 points in four games. The runners up were forward Zack Waldvogel of the Portage Terriers and goaltender Isaiah Plett of the Winnipeg Blues.
BRANDON WHEAT KINGS
The 20-33-2-2 Brandon Wheat Kings have had two days off. The Wheaties play again tomorrow night against Medicine Hat, 7 p.m. at Westman Place.
MANITOBA TRIPLE A MIDGET LEAGUE
There were no games in the Manitoba Triple A Midget Hockey League last night and none tonight but one tomorrow: Norman plays Interlake in Teulon.
MANITOBA MAJOR JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE
There were no games in the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League last night and none until tomorrow when River East journeys to play Pembina Valley in Morris and St. Boniface is at Stonewall.
KEYSTONE JUNIOR B HOCKEY
And the regular season in the Keystone Jr. B Hockey League has ended. The playoffs start later this week.
