Jets Sign Marko Dano to One-Way, One-Year Deal

The Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Marko Dano to a one-year, one-way deal worth $850,000 US.

Of course, considering how little Dano played at the end of last season, that he could be swept up in the Las Vegas Knights expansion draft, although most NHL experts believe the Knights have other options.

Still, the 22-year-old from Eisenstadt, Austria, played only 38 games with the Jets last season. He had four goals and 11 points and was used sparingly down the stretch when the season no longer mattered.

He did miss 26 games with “a lower body injury” that he suffered on Dec. 29 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but he started the campaign with the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League. He was not really on head coach Paul Maurice’s radar all season.

Dano was acquired along with a first-round selection in the 2016 NHL Draft from the Chicago Blackhawks (Feb. 25, 2016) in exchange for forwards Andrew Ladd, Matt Fraser and defenseman Jay Harrison.

Dano was selected by the Blue Jackets in the first round (27th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft.

He’s a left-handed shooting centre who is 5-foot-11, 210 pounds, so he’s solid and can skate. He may be of more interest to Las Vegas than the Jets’ coaching staff.
