Jets Pavelec, Frolik Named to Czech Olympic Team

On Monday, Winnipeg Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec and rightwinger Michael Frolik were named to the Czech Republic squad that will compete at the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia from Feb. 13-27.

On Tuesday, there is a very good chance that Olli Jokinen will be named to the Finnish team, but it’s not a good bet that Andrew Ladd will be named to Team Canada.

Blake Wheeler has already been named to the Team USA so it’s likely there will be four Jets at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

In 33 games for the Jets this season, Pavelec is 11-17-4 with a .901 save percentage and a 3.06 goals against average. Alexander Salak and Jakub Kovar are the other two Czech netminders.

Frolik has been a great addition to the Jets lineup this season. The 6-foot-1, 200 pound winger has nine goals and 15 assists and is plus-two in 44 games this season.

Jokinen, meanwhile, is in the final year of a two-year $9 million deal with the Jets. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound, 16-year NHL veteran has 10 goals and 17 assists in 45 games in 2013-14. Jokinen has already played in the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Winter Games for Finland. Amazingly, in his long 16-year NHL career, he as made the playoffs only once — 2008-09 with Calgary.
