TAMPA, Fla. — The Winnipeg Jets played a tremendous game while goalie Al Montoya barred the door as Winnipeg went into Tampa and won 2-1. Winnipeg’s Cody Eakin had a goal and an assist and was the game’s second star as the Dallas Stars went into L.A. and whipped the Kings 5-2. Jesse Toth scored the winning goal late in the third period as Charleswood edged St. Vital 4-3 to take a 2-0 lead in that best-of-seven MMJHL semi-final and tonight on three fronts, the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs begin.
Let’s start with the Jets victory over Tampa in the National Hockey League last night…
The confusing Winnipeg Jets, just two days after they were horrible against the Florida Panthers, got a late goal from Brian Little last night and beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in Tampa. Al Montoya played a terrific game in the Jets net. He made 28 saves and was the game’s first star. Eric Tangradi scored his first of the year for the Jets. Steven Stamkos scored for Tampa. With the win, the Jets improved to 11-11-1 and pulled to within four points of first place Carolina in the Southeast Division and moved into ninth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Jets are right back into action tonight. They’re back in Sunrise, Fla., to face the Florida Panthers, 6:30 on TSN Jets TV.

Tyler Seguin led the Bruins with two goals and an assist while Patrice Bergeron had a goal and two assists. The Bruins are now 15-3-3.

Brandon Prust and Lars Eller each had a goal and two assists as the Habs won on the road. Carey Price made 42 saves to get the win.
Columbus 2 Vancouver 1 (OT)
Matt Calvert scored the overtime winner.
Washington 7 Florida 1
The Caps scored on their first shot and led 4-0 after eight minutes. Alex Ovechkin and Mike Ribeiro each had a goal and two assists.
Pittsburgh 5 Philadelphia 4
Philly blew a 4-1 lead as Pittsburgh scored three unanswered in the second and one in the third. Chris Kunitz led the Pens with two goals and an assist.
NY Rangers 2 NY Islanders 1 (OT)
Marian Gaborik scored the winner in overtime. Rick Nash had a goal and an assist.
New Jersey 3 Buffalo 2 (SO)
Buffalo blew a 2-0 third-period lead. Patrik Elias scored the tying goal at 18:54 of the third period and then scored the winner in the shootout.
St. Louis 6 Phoenix 3
Patrik Berglund scored twice to lead the Blues.
Detroit 3 Edmonton 0
Jimmy Howard made 22 saves to get the win.
Dallas 5 Los Angeles 2
Jaromir Jagr had two goals and Winnipeg’s Cody Eakin had a goal and an assist to lead the Stars. Winkler’s Dustin Penner was the game’s third star and picked up an assist for the Kings.
Besides the Jets and Florida tonight, there are four other games in the NHL: Ottawa is at the New York Rangers at 6 p.m. on TSN; Edmonton is at Nashville at 7 p.m. on SportsNet West; Chicago is at Colorado; and Calgary is at Anaheim at 9:30 on SportsNet West.
In other NHL news, the NHLPA has agreed to the league’s new re-alignment plan so next year, it’s very likely the Jets will play in the Mid-West Division of the Western Conference with Chicago, Minnesota, St. Louis, Nashville, Dallas and Colorado.
The Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven quarterfinal series start tonight: Portage is in Steinbach, Winkler play in Winnipeg against the Blues and Waywayseecappo opens up in Dauphin. On Saturday, Swan Valley opens up in OCN against the Blizzard.
MANITOBA TRIPLE A MIDGET LEAGUE
There were no games in the Manitoba Triple A Midget Hockey League playoffs last night but two tonight as the Thrashers play at Brandon and the Wild face Pembina Valley in Morden. The Wild and Thrashers lead their respective series 1-0.
MANITOBA MAJOR JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE
There were two games in the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League playoffs last night: Jesse Toth scored the winner as Charleswood beat St. Vital 4-3 to take a 2-0 series lead while Pembina Valley beat St. James 2-1 to even that series at 1-1. Tonight, the Raiders, leading 1-0, are at St. Boniface while the Twins, trailing 1-0, play at River East.

And there were no games in the Keystone Jr. B Hockey League semifinals last night but two tomorrow night when both series return to action. Peguis leads St. Malo 1-0 while Arborg and Selkirk are all even at 1-1.
