University of Manitoba Bisons star Brett Stovin had an outstanding season in 2016-17, but after off-season hip surgery, he was concerned that he might not be ready for the team’s exhibition schedule. As he improved during the summer he figured he’d be ready for the team’s final pre-season game at the University of North Dakota.

Now, he thinks he could be ready to go in Europe.

Mike Sirant, head coach of the Bisons men’s hockey team has announced that the team will play four pre-season games in Northern Ireland and Scotland this August.

This is the third time that the Bisons have been on a European Tour prior to the start of their Canada West regular season schedule. The Bisons will play against British Elite League in both Northern Ireland and Scotland from August 26-31.

During the Tour, the Bisons will play four exhibition games beginning on Aug. 26, with opener against the Belfast Giants in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The second game is on Sunday, Aug. 27, against the same Giants team in Belfast. Then the squad travels to Scotland and will play the Edinburgh Capitals on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Murrayfield Ice Rink in Edinburgh and then will complete the tour with a game against Braehead Clan on Thursday, Aug. 31 in Glasgow. There will also be a couple of days of sightseeing in-between games and then the team will return to Winnipeg for more pre-season action starting in mid-September.

“We are excited to begin the 2017-18 season with a wonderful opportunity for the players to play international competition and enjoy the sights of Europe while traveling to the games,” said Bison men’s hockey head coach Mike Sirant, in his 22nd season at Manitoba.

The team is fundraising for this European Tour and would appreciate any and all help. If you would like to support the team’s efforts, visit the Bison website (gobisons.ca) for more details on how to be involved or sponsor.
